The review section provides descriptions of the zoos I have visited, together with pictures and video footage, if possible. I’ll strive to provide a brief history on each zoo as well. It is in my nature to be analytical and critical, partly due to my training as a veterinarian and toxicologist. So, when I see things that could be improved, especially things that impair animal welfare, these will be noted. As said, I am not a zoo professional, therefore, it may be that my arguments for improvement don't cut any ice, due to lack of background knowledge and context. Although I do try – not always successfully - to have my knowledge on the subject as up to date as possible, any constructive criticism by people more knowledgeable than I am, is welcomed.

I have divided the reviews in two categories, zoos in Europe and zoos outside of Europe (the rest of the world). It is obvious that I have spent more time travelling in Europe, and that the European category is the largest by far. It could be that I will restructure the categorisation in the future, if this will help browsing throught the reviews, but for now the current structure suffice I think. I hope you’ll enjoy the reviews, to be found in the dropdown lists on the left or:

Upcoming reviews

The following list represents work still to be done. Fortunately, I have the opportunity to visit Zoos all over Europe, sometimes even outside Europe. But, unfortunately, processing my notes and footage requires many hours more than I wish, always!, while the covid pandemic wasn't helpful either. This added to some physical issues resulted in quite some lag time regarding the publishing of my visit reports. Nevertheless, editing the raw video footage is fun work. Therefore some videos are already available for viewing while I still have to write the report of my visit to that particular Zoo.

Please, follow the links to the videos, and check back later whether or not the Zoo you are interested in has been published already. By the way, the date given for visit reports to be published are very rough estimates .
