About four weeks ago, Dr Matt Linkie came to Draper’s Hall in London to speak to Fauna & Flora International (FFI) supporters about the invaluable work being carried out to protect the magnificent Sumatran tiger.
Matt is FFI’s Aceh Programme Manager in Indonesia, and he also introduces a short video interviewing Debbie Martyr, FFI Team Leader of Kerinci Tiger Project. His talk was very informative. He spoke about the results of the two projects and how this was achieved (e.g. patrolling the forests and removing snares, organising informant networks in the villages). In Kerinci 30 tiger poachers/traders arrested, but more importantly, 90% of them were successfully prosecuted; 3 – 36 months in prison with an average of 13 months.
