The global coalition SOS — Save Our Species has published a report of the results of three years of work.
In 2010, SOS — Save Our Species has been launched as a global coalition to conserve threatened species and their habitats. The 3 founding partners IUCN, GEF and World Bank initiated this global coalition to build the biggest species conservation fund, supporting on-the-ground field conservation projects world-wide.
Each species is unique, and so is SOS — Save Our Species. It been designed to fill a niche in the complex conservation community. By harnessing the resources and expertise of a network of global institutions and funding the projects most likely to have a positive impact. SOS is both a tool for action and a platform for communicating successes. Pooling resources, leveraging the expertise of the IUCN Species Survival Commission around the inspiring quality of wildlife, SOS is a universal cause and a singular mechanism*.
Recently a report ‘SOS — Three Years of Life and Action’ has been published, accompanied by a video to show how much has been achieved in three years of life and action.
The video ‘SOS — Save Our Species: What if?’ below highlights three years of life and action:

The diversity of life on our planet is breathtaking, offering a huge variety of animals and plants. But this biodiversity of the ecosystems delivers various services to mankind. Food, clean water, fuel, medicine and other essentials are ecosystem services we cannot live without.
Yet this rich biological diversity is disappearing at a frightening and accelerating rate, as the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species™ indicates. Thousands of animals and plants around the world face extinction with species currently disappearing at a rate up to 1,000 times higher than normal. 1 in 4 mammals, 1 in 3 amphibians, 1 in 3 corals, and 1 in 8 birds are at risk of extinction. Without immediate action to halt the decline of biodiversity, not only will species disappear forever, but the very fabric of our society and livelihoods could be placed in severe jeopardy**.
