At Apenheul Primate Park in the Netherlands a gorilla baby was born in the morning of Jan. 10. It’s a girl of about 3 pounds, which makes her slightly on the small side. She is the daughter of experienced gorilla mother Mandji and Jambo the gorilla leader of Apenheul. The girl seems healthy. Mandji delivered her new daughter while being amongst her group members and is not separated.

The little one is already Jambo’s sixth child. In October 2007, almost one year after Jambo (born himself in 1993) arrived from Krefeld Zoo in Germany, his first child was born, his son Mapasa. This baby gorilla will not be the last this year to be born at Apenheul. In the primate park four more gorillas are pregnant. Unique! (Source: website Apenheul, 20.01.2011)
