An adult female chimpanzee arrives at a termite nest with two fishing probes. She transfers one fishing probe to her offspring, who uses it to fish for termites, while retaining the other tool for her own use. Arriving at the termite nest with multiple tools helps to buffer tool donors against the cost of transferring a tool. (Video: Courtesy of Goualougo Triangle Ape Project.)
