Emmen Zoo has financial problems

Monday 11 October the ‘not so good’ financial situation of Emmen Zoo has been presented to the Town council.

The evaluation had been ordered by the Council, because of the request for financial support by the Zoo’s board of directors. It appears that the Zoo is not self-sustainable and will depend on financial support of third parties for the next coming years. Drastic measures are necessary to help the Zoo survive this period of ‘bad weather’. A huge reorganisation has to take place, including a reduction of staff, and adjustments of employment contracts. Without doubt, this will affect the masterplan concerning the relocation and extension of the Zoo, which was due to start next year. (Source: NRC, 12.10.2010)
